Persist Online has arrived on Steam with a particularly unforgiving premise. Developed by CipSoft GmbH, the studio behind Tibia, this MMORPG throws players into a massive open world overrun by zombies, mutants and potentially hostile survivors. Exploring every building, fighting other players, crafting gear and progressing without traditional classes all come together in an adventure where losing your valuable loot is part of the risk.
Persist Online combines MMORPG mechanics, zombies and player-vs-player combat
Persist Online is built around a particularly hostile open world where zombies are only part of the threat. The game is coming to Steam, and players will be able to team up to take on the undead and mutant bosses while keeping an eye on other survivors who may be looking to steal their equipment.
The farther players venture into the world, the greater the danger becomes. Surviving long enough to bring your loot back to the Safehouse is therefore a central part of every expedition.
Guilds will also be able to capture strategic areas of the map to speed up resource storage. The world is designed to feel dynamic, with changing weather and a day-night cycle that directly affects exploration. Every building can be entered and may hide valuable resources or a deadly trap.
This approach builds on CipSoft's long-running experience with Tibia, which the studio has operated since 1997. Persist Online follows a similarly demanding philosophy, with particularly harsh consequences for careless players. One bad encounter could cost you everything you collected during a run.

Combat focuses on firearms and melee weapons
There are no magic wands or traditional fantasy MMORPG arsenals here. Persist Online puts firearms and melee weapons at the center of its combat system.
Shooting everything that moves is certainly an option, but the noise can attract zombies and mutants. A powerful firearm can therefore be both a solution and a potential source of new problems. In some situations, pulling out a hammer and fighting at close range may be the better way to remain unnoticed.
Noise management should have a direct impact on how players approach exploration. Between roaming creatures and rival players looking to take valuable loot, every fight has the potential to completely change the outcome of an expedition.
Persist Online also encourages survivors to craft their own weapons and armor. A weapon can be built from scratch and then upgraded with modifications tailored to a particular playstyle. Making the most of those upgrades will eventually mean heading back out into the world and facing the undead again.

Persist Online ditches traditional classes and lets players build their own character
Progression is not based on a traditional class system. Each player can invest earned points into different skill trees and create a survivor that matches the way they want to play.
The Mechanics skill is one example of this freedom. Improving it can make dismantling certain machines more efficient, while also unlocking the ability to use a distraction robot that may help teammates escape dangerous situations.
This approach becomes even more meaningful when playing as a group. Several survivors can specialize in different abilities and create a complementary team instead of being locked into predefined roles.
Crafting works alongside this progression system, allowing players to create equipment tailored specifically to their character. Persist Online aims to make every expedition part of a continuous loop of exploration, resource gathering, survivor upgrades and repeated trips into increasingly dangerous areas.
Persist Online wants every expedition to feel like a dangerous gamble
With its fully explorable open world, zombies, mutants and the constant threat posed by other players, Persist Online takes several familiar survival-game ideas and brings them into an MMORPG structure.
Its unforgiving nature could be what helps it stand out. Leaving the Safehouse with a carefully crafted weapon means accepting the risk of losing it in the outside world, while traveling with a group does not guarantee a peaceful expedition either.
Persist Online is already listed on Steam, and CipSoft is also offering playtest sessions through the game's official website. For MMORPG fans who prefer firearms, scavenging and hordes of undead over traditional fantasy worlds, the project already has a strong identity of its own.
