Build a settlement, survive harsh winters and explore a prehistoric world from the back of a dinosaur. Paleokin is an open-world survival game developed by a solo developer under the name Accept Permadeath. Scheduled to launch in Early Access in Q1 2027 on PC via Steam, the game will feature building, farming, changing seasons and co-op for up to four players.

Paleokin drops you into an infinite procedurally generated prehistoric world

Paleokin aims to make its world one of the central parts of the experience. Players will explore a procedurally generated world described as infinite, populated by dinosaurs, mammoths and other prehistoric creatures.

Not every creature is simply there to be hunted. Some can be tamed, raised and eventually used as mounts. The developer notably highlights the ability to climb onto the back of a Triceratops and use your weapons while riding it.

Survival will also require players to manage hunger, thirst, sanity, diseases, bleeding, cleanliness and fatigue.

The seasons will directly affect living conditions. Winter can destroy crops and transform the environment into a cold, barren landscape. Warmer seasons will therefore be the time to grow food, stockpile supplies and prepare your settlement before harsher conditions arrive.

Build your own settlement and welcome inhabitants in Paleokin

Building will play a major role in Paleokin. Players will be able to create shelters and settlements using different materials, ranging from traditional buildings to treehouses. Structural stability will need to be taken into account, while resources such as sticks, mud and dinosaur hides can be used during construction.

Farming will complement the building system, with players able to till the soil, grow crops and collect rainwater.

Your settlement can eventually welcome characters who will move into the beds you have built. These inhabitants will react to their surroundings and the overall condition of the settlement while also helping with smaller tasks.

Crafting will have its own unique twist. Every crafted item can result in one of six different outcomes, with probabilities that players can view and influence. The same crafting process could therefore produce anything from a nearly worthless item to something particularly valuable.

Paleokin lets you tame dinosaurs with up to three friends

Paleokin will support online co-op for up to four players. You'll be able to host your own world and invite friends through Steam to explore, hunt, build a settlement and tame prehistoric creatures together.

Combat will feature both melee and ranged weapons, including spears, bows and slingshots. Different creatures will require different strategies, while a timing-based blocking system will come into play during close-range encounters.

Seven creature species are planned for the initial Early Access release. This first version is also expected to include taming and mounts, four-player co-op, building, treehouses, farming, fishing, diving, and both ranged and melee combat.

Paleokin is targeting Steam Early Access in early 2027

Paleokin is being developed by a single developer, who says the project has been in development for around four years. Development is reportedly about 80% complete, with the remaining work focusing in particular on creatures, optimization and improvements to the core gameplay loop.

The Early Access period is currently expected to last around six months. The future 1.0 release is planned to expand the game with more creatures, biomes, skills, tribal behaviors, building options and animals to tame.

Paleokin is targeting an Early Access release in Q1 2027 on PC via Steam. Between its procedurally generated world, settlement building, changing seasons and tameable dinosaurs, the project already brings together plenty of mechanics for players who enjoy building and surviving with friends.
